The Stamm family of Goshen has a long history of racing. Joshua Stamm developed Ataxia-Telangiectasia (AT), a lethal disease that attacks children, causing progressive loss of muscle control, immune system problems, and a strikingly high rate of cancer, especially leukemia and lymphoma. That did not stop Josh from racing with his family in the Orange Classic and Classic 10K for many years and touching the lives of our local and extended running community. |

Matt Stamm shares his thoughts about his brother, Josh, and his vision:
As far back as I can recall, my brother competed annually in the wheelchair division of the Orange Classic 10K race in Middletown, NY. It was something Josh truly loved and looked forward to each summer. In 2008, my father and I ran the Orange Classic in Josh’s memory. Last year, we invited everyone we know to join us as part of “Josh’s Team” and we assembled 50 racers!
This summer’s Classic 10K is on Sunday, June 13th. There is a 5K and a 10K; both races are open to runners and walkers. While there isn’t an official wheelchair division, we will accommodate wheelchair participants. It is always a huge event involving a fitness expo, food, music, and a big party during and after the race.
The Classic 10K race directors have agreed to partner with The Joshua Stamm Memorial Scholarship Fund (a component of The Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan – please visit http://www.cfoc-ny.org for more information) in order to offer people the opportunity to run AND support Josh’s scholarship at the same time - for every participant who registers as part of “Josh’s Team,” the Classic 10K will donate $5 to the scholarship! We are asking that “Josh’s Team” members match the race’s generosity by including an extra $5 with their registration fee.
We hope to have you all with us as part of “Josh’s Team” at The 2010 Classic 10K and Rowley 5K on Sunday, June 13th!

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
With help of Inspire (The Orange County Cerebral Palsy Center - http://www.inspirecp.org/index.php), last year we designed a “Josh’s Team” moisture-wicking t-shirt for this race. The shirts were red with white print and logo. Please check back with this page to learn what we're planning for 2010.
